FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE HVE-2D Version 1.2 Now Available
BEAVERTON, OR February 15, 1999 Safety researchers and law enforcement officers can now efficiently study the human, vehicle and environment factors involved in a motor vehicle crash. HVE-2D is a Windows-compatible simulation environment for running the EDCRASH, EDSMAC, EDSVS and EDVTS physics programs recognized as industry standards for accident reconstruction and simulation. Additionally, a custom vehicle database, EDVDB, containing over 600 ready-to-use vehicles for simulations or reconstructions is now available. HVE-2D uses a visual approach to setting up vehicles, entering driver inputs for steering, braking and throttle controls, and also to analyze the simulation results.
Simulations are set up and executed on top of a scaled accident site drawing produced with a CAD program. Users can drag-and-drop their vehicles into position, place target vehicles to visually compare actual and simulated paths, and use a VCR-like controller to forward, stop or reverse the crash sequence. Multiple simulations can be combined into a single sequence for studying multiple vehicle crashes.
The physics programs have been extended from the original DOS-based versions released in the early 1980's. New enhancements include individual friction at each wheel, additional friction zones and simulation outputs for EDSMAC; up to 10 crush depths, a user definable impulse center and pre-impact braking for EDCRASH; and additional friction zones for EDSVS and EDVTS. The results of the physics programs have been extensively validated against instrumented crash tests.
Engineering Dynamics Corporation, based in Beaverton, Oregon, developed and marketed the first professional software engineering tools for motor vehicle safety researchers in the early 1980's and now has over 1500 customers in 27 countries.
