The scene was surveyed and modeled using 3D Studio. Photos of the store fronts were used to create a realistic look to the buildings. Surfaces were added to the 3-D terrain model for the detailed modeling of the tire sidewall versus sidewalk curb face interaction.

The Ford F-150 pickup, the utility trailer and the Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV were selected directly from the EDC vehicle database.

The event was simulated using the SIMON 3-D Vehicle Dynamics Simulation Model, Tire-Terrain Model (Radial Spring with Sidewall Impact) and the DyMESH 3-D Collision Model. The entire sequence was broken into three separate simulation events to provide for detailed modeling of the intersection collision, the curb impact and the continued rollover into the grassy field.
