This simulation illustrates a great example of how the tools in HVE make such an analysis simple to perform. The Automatic Transmission model eliminated the need for trial and error shifting. The HVE Driver eliminated the need for trial and error steering inputs. Review of the Honda's lateral acceleration history revealed that the S-curve was a factor that affected safety. This fact was immediately made apparent by the initial simulations. Placing cameras in each vehicle also provided visual confirmation that the passing maneuver was performed adequately, but also made it clear that the driver of the Honda was lucky there was no oncoming traffic.
