A series of SIMON simulations revealed the vehicles were traveling near the posted speed limit when they entered the intersection, indicating the pickup driver failed to obey the stop sign. The driver attempted to avoid the collision by braking and steering, but without sufficient reaction time, there was little opportunity to avoid impact.

The collision forces and moments caused the SUV to rotate counter-clockwise and skid across the intersection until the right rear tire sidewall hit a curb, tripping the SUV. The SUV rolled over into the grassy field and came to rest on it's side.
